“Respect your welders” they used to tell me when I was a kid, growing up in the golden age of democratized space exploration.
Little did they know, that I would grow up to become a welder myself and work in the vessels that carry our dreams to the stars. Alongside me there’s a crew that I could trust my life with. A highly skilled team of guys that know these exotic steels like the palm of their hands. Mind you, some of them have been robotically enhanced so they don’t really have hands. Instead they have invested in merging with their tools of choice: A spanner, a grinder, a torch…
It’s around noon and even the most demanding of bosses can’t stop us from having a little lunch break, even if some of us choose to smoke instead of eating. Just another shift and this one will be fully stacked. It’s a small step for a crew, and we are but a small part of this industry, but we like to think that we are doing our bit for our space-faring children.
